Carol Murchie, Your Virtual Sherpa

Carol Murchie

Your Virtual Sherpa is a technical virtual assistant service provided by Carol Murchie, who holds a Master’s Degree in library science from the University of Michigan. As a trained librarian, she is in a league with the original “search engines” our society has had for hundreds of years. After all, who else was there to comb through tons of information to make sense of it all before we had any digital technology?

Carol moved into the high tech field at SilverPlatter Information which pioneered the use of CD-ROM storage and powerful search and retrieval software to publish indexing databases such as Medline, ERIC, and Elsevier Medical Science Series.  With changes in the industry, Carol also adapted her skills.

Over Thirty Years of Skills in Different Technology Skills

Carol has also worked with a variety of publishing and database tools, including content management systems like Documentum, donor software like Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, and museum collections management like Re:Discovery.  She is self-taught on nearly every system she uses, including learning to manage nonprofit finances in Quickbooks.  Much of her early training and experience gives her the talent to figure out how software ticks from a user-perspective, and her research abilities mean that if she doesn’t have the solution in her personal knowledgebase, she’ll soon get it!

Today, Working for You

Carol believes her diverse skills, experience, and drive to help people find the answers to their questions and solutions to their technology conundrums. Just as Sherpa guides in the Himalayas assist in providing vital guidance to visiting mountaineers because they’ve lived and learned the essential lessons of surviving on the mountain, Carol will help her clients in reaching their own business and organizational goals by leading them to the right technological solutions.
