Getting a New Look for Myself 5

new-websiteWith a summer busy doing a couple of website redesigns, I got itchy about re-doing my own website and here it is.

There will be more things added as I build up my business and come up with some fresh ideas.  I hope to have a portfolio of one of my redesigns for a client who had a website that was ‘okay’ but very expensive to upgrade any time apart from very simple blog posts.  It didn’t even have social media sharing tools to help spread the word.

Moving him to WordPress is going to make his ongoing website maintenance far simpler, cheaper, and flexible.  While meeting virtually with his longtime graphic designer who does his print collateral (wanted to be certain to use his branding colors), we decided the theme I had initially selected wasn’t quite “there” and before you could put either of us on hold, I was able to install a different theme, tweak it a bit for color schema, and had a new look to present and some functionality that the client really wanted.

I joke with both potential and actual clients that my goal doing WordPress websites is to enable them to find a new person who can easily step into my place if I get hit by a bus, though a big part of my interest in going into this area of expertise is to teach people that one needs solid content and good writing skills.

I’m still toying with ideas on creating a logo for my business but for the moment, enjoy the brighter colors and whimsical cartoons.

Great job with the new website Carol, I definitely need to do this for my own site, as I know so much more know than when I first started 6 months ago!

I knew nothing about WordPress when I first started and now that is the website theme of choice for the majority of my clients, so I learned so much by taking care of and in the case of two of them, totally revamping their site, that I am ready to tackle my own.

I love the clean, simple layout of your site and I especially love the image of the vintage social media :o)

    Hi Carol

I also like the style of your website but hope you will add an eye catching header/logo at some point.

Your comment “I joke with both potential and actual clients that my goal doing WordPress websites is to enable them to find a new person who can easily step into my place if I get hit by a bus, though a big part of my interest in going into this area of expertise is to teach people that one needs solid content and good writing skills.” is bang on by the way. This is how VAs can add real value to the services they offer clients.

I look forward to more engaging chats on future Hangouts once I get back into my stride after the kids return to school this week.

Thanks for your input,Stella. Yes, I am pondering the logo question and may ask a friend in graphic design if she’d like to help me with that.

The “hit by a bus” comment comes from a real life example of a client in one of my previous lives who lost their key technical person and were unable to send us database updates for a while. We actually used that scenario in interviewing candidates in our software development department.

      Very cheerful interviews we gave!
